Snowstorm Proposal | Zach & Emily

OK so the headline is misleading. It’s really more of a thunderstorm. I drove 2 hours through Friday rush hour to capture a surprise proposal that Zach had been planning for a long time. It was supposed to take place during sunset at his parents’ lovely backyard where there would be a path of candles to a beautiful wooded area. But mother nature had other ideas that day. We had thunder filled freezing rain. I couldn’t leave them without one amazing photo to remember the day. All we had was darkness and rain. And so with a little bit of creativity and getting drenched, we leave them with a “snowstorm” proposal.

Thank you Zach for inviting me to this special moment. While it didn’t turn out as planned, all that matters is Emily heart melted and she said yes! =)

No one wants to admit it on the wedding day, that the rain just plain sucks! Especially when you’ve planned for an outdoor wedding ceremony. You try to sugar coat it with the bride & groom. Sometimes I wonder if the saying “rain is good luck” is just that, sugar coating. This day, Megan & Alex’s wedding day, was definitely non stop rain.

But there’s one thing we did notice while photographing this day, and perhaps proof that the only thing that really matters, is the fact that you’re finally taking that key step in spending the rest of your lives together which trumps any unwelcome events that transpires throughout your wedding day.

At the start of the day, we sensed some frustration towards the weather. However, as you can see with the photos, Megan & Alex were all smiles right after that key moment, their first look. After that, nothing else mattered in their eyes. You can see Alex giving a thumbs up in the middle of the rain! And perhaps having their loved ones witness that moment with loving support is the best “sugar-coating” you can have on a rainy wedding day.

Despite having to pull the trigger on a back-up plan, the Armour House Lake Forest Academy provided a magnificent backdrop for their ceremony and reception. Megan & Alex did a great job putting together what we would consider the best dining set-up we’ve seen at the Armour House. Some fun details included mini floral vases as escort cards, pin spot lights that accentuated the dining hall, wishing stones which the guests took full advantage of, and our personal favorite, a display of old wedding photos from previous generations.

Congratulations Megan & Alex, and thanks for toughing out the rain to get some good outdoor images! It was definitely worth getting a little wet. Thanks for having LOP!

Special thanks to One Fine Day Events for coordinating a smooth day and Instincts Design Studio for the beautiful flowers.
