Not too long ago, Jimmy proposed to Ashley and we took photos “undercover” as a surprise for Ashley. This time I got to reveal myself for their official engagement photos. It was a bit of a rainy day as we started along North Ave Beach, creating somewhat of a challenge. After an outfit change, the rain stopped and gave us enough time to get a few photos around the Nature Boardwalk in Chicago’s Lincoln Park.

Come check out Jimmy’s proposal here.

Congratulations Ashley & Jimmy! See you on the big day!

Shauna & Anthony chose a great spot for their engagement photos, Alfred Caldwell Lily Pool (aka Lily Pond). This is a hidden gem just inside Lincoln Park north of the zoo. It’s a great nature get-away from the busy city streets. It also made for excellent backdrops for their engagement guestbook.

Congratulations Shauna & Anthony! Can’t wait to show off your engagement photos on your big day!

This wedding day was full of fun, mainly because of Kim & Dan’s fun personalities. They easily rubbed off on the entire bridal party, which filled the entire day with lots of laughs. Everyone got ready at the Westin Michigan Avenue Chicago with a spectacular view of Chicago’s Magnificent Mile. A lovely ceremony took place at St Chrysostom’s Episcopal Church in Chicago’s Gold Coast neighborhood. We headed to Lincoln Park for a few photos and continued the celebration at the famous Newberry Library, also in the Gold Coast neighborhood.

Some cool details… Kim & Dan are probably the perfect couple for Newberry. Just take a look a their engagement session here. They’ve complemented their venue well from the very beginning. Their engagement session featured some books as well as fun wedding party photos in front of the library. The table setting was complete with books and library index cards/drawer. The groom, brother, and FOG attempted to recreate an old photo. Although it wasn’t perfect, the photo will certainly become another classic. One of her close friends/bridesmaid sang beautifully at the ceremony. Finally, something super unique that we’ve never seen before… the groom’s ring is made of wood. You can see more highlights on our FB Page.

Congratulations Kim & Dan! The two of you are so addicting to shoot, from the engagement session to the end of the wedding day! Thank you for having LOP!!!

Who doesn’t like an icy beach! Lori & Colm’s engagement session was postponed about 4 times because of the so called polar vortex but we finally managed to land a sunny warm winter weekend! The left over ice added a spectacular backdrop which made their photos much more unique. It was an adventure getting to that spot, falling into several ice/sand pits that looked stable at the time, but it was well worth the trouble. We ended the shoot in Lincoln Park. It was important to get a skyline shot to create some photo contrast to their wedding day which will be in St Charles. Looking forward to seeing you guys again in August! Thanks for toughing out the icy engagement session!

While I didn’t get a chance to meet Kevin during our first consultation, I did meet with Katherine and her Mom. And I was immediately drawn to them and crossed my fingers that they would book us for their wedding! Katherine had that laid back but bright personality that just lights up the room and I just know her wedding would be so much fun!

While Lincoln Park is one of their favorite spots, we did stop by Katherine’s condo for a quick photo. They got engaged there because Katherine told Kevin “there’s only one way I’m going to move out of here and that’s if you marry me”. So it was only fitting that it took place there. And so here we are, their engagement session only 2 weeks away from their big wedding day but we made it happen!

When we’re lucky, we experience that “connection” with our clients and their families. We get to see them again in the future and see how their families expand. This is one of those families and we’re so grateful to get to see them again.

This day we celebrate Lauren and Vince’s wedding. The girls got ready at Waldorf Astoria, an adored Gold Coast luxury hotel. The guys put their finishing touches at the ceremony site, The Shrine of Our Lady of Pompeii in Chicago’s Little Italy neighborhood.

As photographers, we were treated to something unique as Lauren & Vince opted for an old Italian tradition of walking into church together, symbolizing the journey of marriage. All their guests witnessed their “first look” just outside the church with a short opening ceremony, followed by a procession of their entire wedding into church.

All the excitement of their friends and family left us with little time for photos but we managed to make 2 stops, Kinzie Street Bridge and the Lily Pond in Lincoln Park. Although short on time, the lighting at the Lily Pond gave us enough “photo magic” to pull off a couple of great images.

Lauren & Vince, thank you for having us at your wedding, giving us a chance to see everyone again and documenting all your precious events including your proposal! Congratulations!

It’s been several months since I’ve met Megan and Alex so I was pretty excited to spend some photo time with this couple. As you’ve probably heard, an engagement shoot is a great way to break the ice before your big day. The summer crowd, Chicago heat & humidity, and a yoga class – just a few things that got in the way. But we managed through them and got some good shots with the help of some storm clouds. Megan & Alex had some outfit changes as you can see and some creative signs. If you can’t make up your mind about what to wear, an outfit change is always a good option.

Looking forward to seeing you guys at one of my most favorite venues!

The Beatles believe that all you need is love. While that may be true, respect and admiration can make love even sweeter. Admiration is a word that comes to mind when you see photos of Sarah and Eric looking at one another. Our favorite is one where Eric is staring at Sarah when her father was getting ready to hand her off to Eric. It’s as if she’s the only thing that existed.

You can witness more of this on their first look photos of which started just outside JW Marriott Chicago, where they got ready for the day. As most wedding timelines go, we were running a bit late but made the most of the time we had. Photo stops took place by the Wrigley Building on Michigan avenue and Lincoln Park. But of course, the “main course” for photos took place at a very exclusive spot, the staircase at The Rookery Building. This is one of our top 3 favorite venues so it was certainly a treat for us as you can tell with how magnificent the backdrop is. The ceremony and reception all took place at The Rookery as well.

Some cool little details… The bridesmaids had matching robes to start the day off with something cute and fun. The guys sported suspenders which the bride loved and made as focus points in most photos. Check out their wedding cake topped with the word love. Small, yet made so perfectly to accent the space. “Simple and Elegant” is a description used many many times but only few can really pull it off perfectly, and Sarah & Eric really pulled it off well. Lastly, when attending a wedding, never approach a bride with a drink in your hand. It’s just not a good idea. Good thing Sarah is a trooper and all about being laid back and having fun on her special day.

Congrats guys and thanks for having LOP!

November… it’s like a box of chocolates, you never know what you’re going to get. Danielle & Mike had an unseasonably warm but very windy day. But as you can see, the sun cooperated and we have an amazing skyline sunset shot! Yes, Chicago has the most beautiful skyline in the world, period!

Their day started at a trendy boutique hotel, Hotel Lincoln in the heart of Lincoln Park. After a quick “first look” inside the hotel, we crossed the street for some quick photos with Mickey! (we love dogs)

Both ceremony and reception took place at Café Brauer Being that their very first date took place at Lincoln Park Zoo, they were destined to marry at Cafe Brauer, one of our favorite Chicago venues!

Some cool details… They had a cute custom wood carved cake topper with the 3 of them (Mickey that is). There was an elaborate display of candle holders that also served as wonderful guest favors that everyone enjoyed. And as usual, Scarlet Petal did an amazing job dressing up the venue with a nature theme while the ladies from Events With Benefitz kept the day running smooth.

While the weather was too windy for outdoor bridal party photos, we certainly made up for it with the more important moments. Congratulations Danielle & Mike and thank you so much for having us at your special day!
