Katie has been planning this engagement shoot for quite a while and had her sights set on Chicago Botanic Garden in Glencoe. With Chicago’s very unpredictable weather, we experienced record rain the past couple of weeks, flooding most of the region. The water levels were so bad that Chicago Botanic Garden had to close to the public with their parking lot under water and some parts of the garden. We were bummed but it all happened for a reason. Katie found a back-up location, Forest Park Beach in Lake Forest which should have been the first choice! We were super excited to find this hidden gem as it provided for some amazing backdrops especially during sunset. It’s definitely not the typical Chicago beach.

I ruined a pair of shoes during this shoot but the photos certainly made it all worth while. Congrats and we’re very excited to be part of your big day at our favorite venue! See you soon!

Alfred Caldwell Lily Pool Engagement | Kate & Robert

Kate & Robert decided to do both nature and city backdrops. We started at theAlfred Caldwell Lily Pool just next to Chicago’s Lincoln Park Zoo and finished up in downtown by the Chicago River at one of our favorite bridges. These are both great location choices you can’t go wrong with.

While we do establish a connection with every couple we work with, Kate and Robert are truly special to us. They may represent the last chapter of weddings with a family we fell in love with more than a decade ago. They would be the 6th wedding for us with this lovely family. We can’t lie, we’ve been waiting to do this shoot for some time now. =)

Congrats guys! Cleveland rocks! See you soon!

Super excited to share some of Liz & Mark’s magical engagement photos! Mainly because she’s going to be our 5th bride from this wonderful family circle and we get to see all of them again! Thank you for having us back!

Liz & Mark chose a location that’s quickly moving into a favorite location list. We love getting out of the city once in a while and this spot was certainly a treat. Considering some high-noon sun shadow challenges, we still managed to find some pockets that provided for spectacular lighting. Also being huge dog people, having Charlie and Brody were also a joy to have in the photos. Lots of hills to climb and creeks to navigate but both Liz and Mark were up for anything. And as you can see, it was certainly worth all the effort.

Congratulations Liz & Mark! Can’t thank you enough for having us back to document your family once again! See you on your big day!

Northwestern University Ryan Field Wedding Engagement Proposal | Somil & Aditi

Elaborate proposals are difficult to pull off but this one went perfectly as planned. Somil & Aditi are Northwestern alums so there was no other place more fitting to propose to his best friend. But it wasn’t just on Northwestern campus grounds, it was on the 50 yard line inside Ryan Field! How awesome is that!

The story goes… one of their friends won a dinner with the Northwestern Football coaching staff at the press box inside Ryan Field. Seems believable? We think so. As Aditi and her friends approach the area, I acted as the official photographer for the Northwestern University Athletics department. I was asked to photograph the winning party on the field. However, the rule was that only 2 people are allowed at a time. I asked for the first 2 volunteers. While there was some discussions at first (as planned), of course Somil & Aditi ended up going first. We first walk around the field to take come casual shots. As I lead them towards the 50 yard line, Aditi was met with a sign written with roses asking “Marry Me”. Well, it wasn’t really a question since it ended with an exclamation point.

She said yes! And after an emotional proposal, we headed inside Welsh-Ryan Arena where she was congratulated by her close friends and family, celebrating a sweet evening. What a great surprise! Congratulations Somil & Aditi! Thanks for letting us capture an important moment in your lives!

Steve has been planning and waiting for this day for a very long time. He contacted us many months ago, excited to plan his proposal and engagement session. Although we weren’t there to witness his exciting surprise proposal, we’re excited to have shot their engagement session. They chose a location where you can’t go wrong, the Chicago Botanic Garden. It was chilly but our timing was perfect for the sun’s angle and bright golden colors. There are endless spots for photos, but here are some of our favorites.

Congratulations Steve & Aimee! We’re excited for your big future ahead!

Naperville riverwalk in Centennial Park is probably one of the best places for a fall engagement or wedding photos. It features many traits that help make for vibrant backgrounds. I’m so glad that Lauren & Michael chose this place for their very fun engagement shoot. Lauren’s goal was to have a classy sleek look surrounded by a city park feel. We certainly have the perfect location and the perfect couple to pull this off. Lauren & Michael have also known each other since middle school, so needless to say, we also have the chemistry for some great photos.

It was fun to see everyone again and we can’t wait for the big day!

Northerly Island is Sarah & Anthony’s most favorite spot in Chicago (and their dog’s favorite place to play too) so it was only fitting to do their engagement photos there. While it’s not a frequent spot for photos, it certainly brings a fresh and different perspective of Chicago’s skyline. There’s plenty of walking commitment but once you get past that, you’ll be rewarded with spectacular backdrops. We did get pounded with strong lakefront winds and I myself got caught in a wave with gear at hand, but the golden sun made up for that sacrifice.

Thanks for roughing it out Sarah & Anthony! See you next year! Same time, same place!

Who doesn’t like an icy beach! Lori & Colm’s engagement session was postponed about 4 times because of the so called polar vortex but we finally managed to land a sunny warm winter weekend! The left over ice added a spectacular backdrop which made their photos much more unique. It was an adventure getting to that spot, falling into several ice/sand pits that looked stable at the time, but it was well worth the trouble. We ended the shoot in Lincoln Park. It was important to get a skyline shot to create some photo contrast to their wedding day which will be in St Charles. Looking forward to seeing you guys again in August! Thanks for toughing out the icy engagement session!

One of our secret obsession is a night-time shoot with snow falling in the background. It’s so difficult to snag one of these momemts as most engagement sessions are scheduled based on availability, not weather. But luck is what we had on this day. I was secretly hoping for snow on the way to the shoot and the weather gods blessed us with the right amount of snowfall during the shoot, just enough to light up the images. We were super excited! Of course, Raquel & John had to brave the cold but it was well worth it. They also brought some cool jars with their wedding date painted on them for their save-the-date cards. These two truly admire each other as if no one else exist around them, they are truly made for each other. Their wedding photos are going to turn up some great moments captured. See you guys in the fall!

Kim & Dan are so much fun to shoot. It’s mainly because of their care-free and fun attitude on top of the chemistry they have for one another. Despite the chilly morning, their photos came out “effortless”. And our timing with the sun’s angle gave us lots of golden light to play with. We love how these photos turned out. We can hardly wait for their wedding this summer! Can anyone guess where their reception will be held?
